Revolutionizing cold chain logistics

The trial sees a brand new TIP refrigerated trailer go into operation on UK roads by its customers that have already declared an interest in experiencing the new temperature-controlling technology.

During the latter half of 2023, DistriFresh (subsidiary of Vion Food Group) has been utilizing 15 Vector® eCool e-reefers supplied by TIP Group and Carrier Transicold.

TIP Group, Thermo King, and BPW collaborated on a 12-month pilot in the Netherlands using AxlePower to convert trailer "lost energy" into power for refrigeration units. Transporters Herbert SAS, Wezenberg, and Tielbeke, working for Albert Heijn, operated the trailers.

TIP is conducting a 12-month UK trial of a zero-emission, battery, and solar-powered transport refrigeration unit (TRU) on one of its reefers. Manufactured by Sunswap, the system uses solar panels on the trailer roof and a modular battery to power the refrigeration unit emission-free.

The twelve-month pilot was launched last summer. TIP pre-ordered 40 battery and solar-powered TRUs, with the first entering service in August 2023 for its customers.

TIP, Unilever, DLG, and maxwell+spark launched a pilot in the Netherlands to replace diesel refrigeration with zero-emission battery-electric systems. Starting in 2021, the trial expanded to more units. Results showed the electric system ran successfully in full electric mode, saving over 99% of fossil fuels.
