TIP’s ‘Fat Bottomed Boys & Girls’ charity cycling team returns for 11th year
PRESS RELEASE: 3rd April 2025
TIP’s cycling team, affectionately called the ‘Fat Bottomed Boys & Girls’, returns to the roads in May for its 11th outing, with the aim of raising £70,000 for charity.
This year, 55 cyclists, including TIP customers and partners from across the UK and Ireland transport and logistics sector, will take on the challenge in support of the Douglas Macmillan Hospice, a Staffordshire-based charity providing essential care to those in need.
Last year, the team cycled over 300 kilometres from Zurich in Switzerland to Munich in Germany, raising an incredible £92,000 for the landmark 10th anniversary event.
This year’s 3-day challenge, coined ‘The Italian Job II,’ will see the team embark on an arduous route spanning around 350 kilometres. Setting off from the Veneto region, north of Venice, the cyclists will head north into the Dolomites, winding through the hilly terrain of northern Italy, before finishing in the historic city of Bergamo, near Milan.
Over the past 10 charity rides, TIP has raised more than £600,000, and it has now become a staple event in the industry’s calendar. As ever, the team is made up of riders of all abilities, from experienced cyclists to first-time challengers, all united by a shared goal of making a difference.
The success of the 'Fat Bottomed Boys and Girls' team highlights TIP's broader commitment to corporate social responsibility and community engagement.
With the team gearing up for another unforgettable ride, TIP encourages individuals and organisations alike to get involved, whether through sponsorship, donations, or simply cheering on the riders as they take on their latest challenge.
“The 11th edition of the TIP charity bike ride is a testament to the commitment and generosity of everyone involved over the years,” said Mike Furnival, Managing Director of TIP, UK & Ireland. “What started as a small initiative has grown into an event that not only raises vital funds, but also fosters strong relationships within our industry and beyond.
“Each year, we’ve been able to exceed our fundraising targets, and we hope 2025 will be no different. The Douglas Macmillan Hospice carries out incredible work supporting individuals and families facing incredibly difficult circumstances, and we’re proud to do our part in assisting their efforts.”
